South Korean manufacturer Ssangyong recently revealed plans to expand its business in the US. It also set a new sales target for 2011 -- 120,000 units globally and double that in 2012. Ssangyong displayed the SUT 1 concept at the recently held Geneva Auto Show. It has promised that within a few years, it will become a force to be reckoned with. Included in the models that it plans to offer in the future is an electric version of the Korando SUV.
This model will feature a 160hp electric motor and a 35Kw lithium-ion battery pack. The model is expected to run for about 110 miles (177 km) on a single charge and is rated to have a top speed of mph ((150 km/h).
Ssangyong will also offer smaller version of the electric Korando, referred to as the EREV; but it will be in form of a plug-in hybrid. It will feature an internal combustion engine mated to an electric motor good for 107hp. These enable the model to have a range of about 250 miles (400 km).
