Euro NCAP to introduce new crash test scoring system in 2009

Euro Ncap LogoCar safety organization Euro NCAP will bring in a new crash test scoring system beginning February next year. Rather than the traditional three star rating, only one star will be awarded after new cars are tested for safety. Euro NCAP presently awards scores out of five for adult occupant, child occupant, and pedestrian protection safety.The new system will bring in an overall average score, consisting of all three, plus a new ‚Äòelectronic safety assist‚Äô category. It‚ expected this scheme will make NCAP results easier to comprehend for consumers. Beginning in 2009, whiplash protection will also be measured in adult occupant safety tests. Euro NCAP, which puts the benchmark for European car safety, lately announced that only cars with ESP could attain its full five-star safety rating.
