European car sales continue to drop

Mercedes-Benz VehiclesLast April, new car registrations in Europe fell by 12 percent. In the publication of the European Automobile Manufacturer‚ Association (ACEA) demonstrate that among the major markets in the western European region (the old EU 15), only the 45.6 percent year-on-year drop in sales was worse than the UK‚ fall of 24 percent. Other markets registered growth, in fact, the only two European countries to do so are Germany which registered a growth of 19.4 percent, while Austria recorded a 12.8 percent increase. Major European markets that registered growth are those with a reputation for value for money, including Skoda, Chevrolet, Dacia, Hyundai and the Fiat group, which all recorded year-on-year increases in April 2009. VW also register a slight increase of 0.7 percent, attributed to the strong market performance of Germany. The rest of the manufacturers registered a drop in sales. Ford and Saab for instance went down 0.7 percent and 60.4 percent, respectively.
