Ex-Caterham tech director creates Zolfe Orange sports car
Weekend motorsports welcome the arrival of the compact British sports car Zolfe Orange which was designed for auto racing fans seeking thrill with affordable entries, and which has currently began limited production. The vehicle was a result of the partnership between Midlands owner Nic Strong and ex-Caterham Tech Director Jez Coates.
The vehicle is just a little over 700 kilograms thanks to its spaceframe chassis and composite body. Although more engine versions (with 6-speed manual) are anticipated later this year, the vehicle currently comes with a 2.3-liter Ford Duratec unit that generates 185 hp (138kW) that is channeled to the back wheels via a 5-speed gear from Mazda with a limited slip differential as option. Tires come from Avon and braking system comes from AP Racing which equips all four tires with disc-brakes. Although the car was designed for racing purposes it nevertheless comes with some comfort features like an air-conditioning system and power windows. The price for the basic car begins at around $42,100. A limited production of 30 units will be made annually and most of them will end up in the US. Photo gallery after the jump!
