Expect the new Astra to be better than Insignia, says Opel
Later this year, an even higher quality interior will characterize Opel Astra better than Insignia. According to its makers, 40 to 50 percent of our first impressions about a car’s cabin are based on touch and feel. Thus, its door handles, stalks, steering wheel and gear level are all courtesy of its larger sibling.
The stylish “wing” design and high-quality feel of the Insignia has been lauded thus this is also used for Astra, including plastic that mimics leather covered surfaces. According to Malcolm Ward, design director at GM, they wanted to bring a premium feel to the compact segment, so they had to match the Insignia or come out with something better. A clever MPV style floor design with different configurations to suit the load will be adapted for Astra’s boot. A separate compartment which can be folded into A-shape to stow smaller objects and prevent rolling around will be available in the boot floor.
