After Felipe Massa tested the ultra-exclusive Ferrari 599XX in Valencia, he commented that it is extremely powerful and has exceptional stability. He applauded the car especially since it has been planned for the track but is easy to drive. Ferrari 599X is a hardcore track-focused version of Ferrari's 599 Fiorano. The 599XX replaced the FXX this year, and the program runs along similar lines. Customers gave feedback to Ferrari engineers that they intend to use in the development of future road cars. The Ferrari 599XX gets a retuned version of the 599's V12 engine, with its rev limit boosted to 9000 rpm. By adopting a new crankshaft and using carbonfiber more extensively in ancillary parts, the weight was reduced.

Ferrari said that it was able to achieve its goal of nearly 700bhp at 9000rpm. The power is transmitted through a new version of Ferrari's robotized manual gearbox, which features shift times of just 60ms. The 599XX is claimed to be able to lap its Fiorano test track in 1m 17sec, less than a second off the time of the Enzo-based FXX that it means to replace.

The modifications made to the regular 599 include carbonfiber additions, including a small roof spoiler, carbonfiber brake disc covers and an enormous carbonfiber undertray and rear diffuser. For its interior, the cabin has been stripped out to race specification. The car is left with a bare dashboard and carbonfiber cladding. However, the car does have a display screen that is used by Ferrari's 'virtual car engineer' that provides data on the vehicle's efficiency instantly
