Ferrari-Inspired 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8
Formula One drivers Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso last Thursday received the keys to their own 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8s, courtesy of Ferrari and Chryslers’ Italian parent, Fiat S.p.A. The SRT8s come in Ferrari’s signature finish, Rosso Corsa, which means Racing Red. The vehicles’ seven-slot grille is painted in matte black with red custom inserts. The SRT8s were painted with an offset black stripe that extends from bumper to bumper. The Italian flag is painted on the underside of the rear spoiler, as a tribute to the Ferrari F150th Italia F1 car. The rear vehicles’ light bar is painted in gloss black with red accents around the Jeep logo. The specialized SRT8s are 1.5 inches lower than the standard SUV, highlighted by black 20-inch wheels.
The SUVs’ interiors were also special. The seats were given Ferrari red leather inserts with bolsters. Getting the red leather trim were also the vehicles’ door-trim panels, the central armrest and instrument panel. The steering wheels were adorned with red contrasting stitching and sports paddle shifters.
These are “ultimate performance SUVs that are identically built with classic Ferrari styling cues and one-of-a-kind Rosso Corsa exteriors,” according to Beth Paretta, director of marketing and operations for SRT. Paretta added that the Grand Cherokee SRT8 brings a combination of Jeep's world-class capability to the road or the racetrack. The customized SRT8’s are still powered by the standard car’s 6.4-liter Hemi V8 with 470 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. Chrysler will begin deliveries of the standard SRT8 to European customers in May, but has no plans to market the Ferrari-inspired version.
