Ferrari explains the fault that has caused 458 Italia models to catch fire

Ferrari 458 Italia

Yes, it appears that Ferrari has an official explication for the 458 Italia models that were destroyed by fire. Apparently, according to Ferrari North Europe, this is a problem seen only on the cars driven very hard (It’s a Ferrari, how else can you drive it, right?). It seems that when a car is driven to high temperatures, in hot ambient temperatures, the adhesive used in the wheelarch assemblies can overheat and allow the rear wheel housing heat shields to move around. The same adhesive can also begin to smoke and even catch fire, said a Ferrari spokesman. Ferrari will recall all the 458 Italia models delivered so far in order to fit new wheelarch liners and attach them more securely. Also, it will replace any cars that were damaged as a result of this problem. [via autocar]
