Recently, Ferrari filled a patent for its new four-wheel drive hybrid system, a new technology which might be used on its front- and rear-engined models. The idea of the system us simple: the manufacturer wants to reduce the complexity of hybrid systems by separating the roles of the engine and the electric motor. "The aim of the present invention is to provide a four-wheel - drive vehicle with hybrid propulsion - and being at the same time easy and inexpensive to produce." The new system developed by the well-known carmaker will be built in order to improve handling rather than reducing fuel consumption.
