A Ferrari UK spokesman said that the company is taking reports of brand new Ferrari 458 Italia models catching fire very seriously. To date, there have only been three cases of new 458s being turned to ash in recent months that have no clear causes. In an interview with just-auto, the Ferrari spokesman said that there should be a differentiation of a vehicle fire and one that's caused by outside factors, including driver error. The spokesman said though that there have been six incidents where it potentially could be the driver or other factors.

He clarified that he is not in a position to comment on the vehicle fires. The 458 Italia, the replacement for the F430, was presented last year at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Powering the Italia is a 4.5l V8 direct injection engine fitted with the traditional flat-plane crankshaft. This engine is capable of delivering 570hp at 9,000 rpm and 540 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. The unit is coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that enables the car to go from zero to 60mph 3.4 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 325 km/h (200 mph).
