Ferrari’s Luca Di Montezemolo to give the official start at Le Mans

The Chairman of the famed carmaker Ferrari Luca di Montezemolo will give the official start signal on the 77th edition of the Le Mans 24 Hour Race. Montezemolo was invited to the event by the president of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest Jean-Claude Plassart to help celebrate the 60th birthday of the first nine overall 24 Hour Race wins of Maranello which was made possible in 1949 through the 166 MM of Lord Seldon and Luigi Chinetti. Montezemolo said that he was truly happy to be provided the opportunity to start the race which has made history in the world of motor racing and in which Ferrari shares a close affinity.
Montezmolo went on to say that the company's Scuderia has provided remarkable accomplishments on this circuit. The interest of Montezmolo's company in the Le Mans 24 Hour Race is the technologically advanced sporting competition. Besides the nine overall wins recorded between 1949 and 1965, Ferrari has also garnered many class wins in the French race, the latest of which was won in 2008 by the F430 GT from the Risi Competizione team.
To start out the race on June 13, there will be 10 Maranello berlinittas lined out with eight private teams. Present at the celebrations will be Stefano Domenicali, the director of GES, a sure manifestation of Maranello's unwavering interest in the historical competition. Another special occasion at Le Mans that Montezmolo will be marking as Chairman of the Fiat Group, is the fact that the late Gianni Agnelli also started the Le Mans 24 Hour Race 40 years ago.
