Fiat and its Turkish joint venture partner, Koc Holding, may manufacture a vehicle just for Turkey, the Vatan daily newspaper reported on Monday. Fiat would supply the vehicle's technological infrastructure. Initial production for the vehicle was planned at 200,000 units at Fiat's Tofas facility in northwest Turkey. Tofas is the joint venture of Koc Holding and Fiat.
Sergio Marchionne, Fiat CEO, stated during the Detroit auto show that progress had been made on the proposal being discussed with Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, who has been seeking a Turkish-made vehicle.
Fiat is planning production based on the Albea model, the paper revealed. This model is being discontinued in other countries. [source: Autonews]
