Fiat considering two commercial vehicles for North America

Speculations have been flying on what vehicle will replace the outgoing Dodge Sprinter in North America. Last Tuesday, Chrysler Group confirmed that it is considering two Fiat S.p.A. commercial vehicles, specifically the Fiat Ducato and Iveco Daily. Gualberto Ranieri, senior vice president of communications at Chrysler, said that the Chrysler Group is discussing the possibility with Fiat and Iveco. Previous reports have said that Chrysler was considering bringing in the vehicles under a separate Dodge truck brand.
Ranieri responds to this by saying only that any commercial vehicles would certainly not have the Fiat badge and that the sole Fiat vehicle in North America will be the Fiat 500. Mercedes-Benz also announced that it would end its partnership with Dodge and would appoint about 120 Sprinter dealers.
The vehicles will then carry the Mercedes badge. What this means is that the Sprinter contracts will be ended for 350 Dodge dealers. Iveco, a commercial truck maker owned by Fiat, makes the Iveco Daily which is a comparable in size to the largest Sprinters. The Fiat Ducato is smaller. Ranieri said that the company has not yet made a decision on when the vehicles will be imported and that it will issue a decision at the appropriate time.
