Fiat delays reintroduction of Lancia in the U.K.

The plan of the Fiat Group introduce its best brand Lancia again to the UK outlet next year has been indefinitely postponed. "Given the current global economic crisis, Fiat Auto has taken the decision to delay the reintroduction of the Lancia brand in right-hand-drive markets beyond 2009,"Fiat stated in an interview. An insider in the Fiat UK company informed us that there is currently no fresh schedule in place for a later roll-out in the UK either. "Right now it would be ill-advised to commit to a date on any relaunch of Lancia in Britain." The source continued to imply that the latest Delta which costs more than £20,000 was not the right car for the time being, and that reopening the Lancia marquee with it at present just wouldn't make sense.
The insider insisted that work would keep going backstage to gather more UK dealers onboard for a possible reintroduction. "Our work to prepare the ground for Lancia to come back won't be wasted. We simply have to wait for things to get better."
Concerning the possible joint UK roll-out with the arrival of the new Ypsilon supermini, which is foreseen to start right-hand drive manufacture in early 2010, the source informed Autocar that "all things are possible." The Fiat insider was not informed if deposits for the Lancia have been made for UK deliveries of the new Delta next year, but assured that if there have been any, that they would be returned.
