Fiat drops plans to build a new Topolino, next-generation Seicento approved

Fiat Seicento

According to the latest reports, it appears that the new Fiat Topolino failed to receive the green light for production because it wasn’t right for the market. The Topolino will be replaced by a new Seicento, which will have the same dimensions as the current Toyota iQ. The new car which will be positioned in the Fiat lineup beneath the Panda and 500, will be a budget hatchback and will be a little more expensive than the Panda.

Regarding the engines, the new car will receive the latest 0.9-liter TwinAir two-cylinder engine delivering 85 hp, which made its debut in the 2010 Fiat 500 TwinAir. Fitted with Start&Stop technology, the new engine will deliver reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The TwinAir engine consumes only 4.1l/100 km (57.4 mpg) and emits 95g/km of CO2. Regarding the new car, it seems that this will not be sold in the United Kingdom, but we will see plenty of these models in Europe. Regarding a debut in the United States, we do believe that it will not be made, as the Italian manufacturer will introduce the 2011 Fiat 500 Sport, earlier next year. [via autocar]
