Fiat to build niche vehicles if it acquires Bertone

If Fiat acquires Bertone, one of its plans is to use Bertone's Turin manufacturing plant for building niche vehicles and not mass-produced models as previously speculated. CEO Sergio Marchionne remains very optimistic about its chances of getting the collapsed Italian coachbuilder. He did not elaborate on what the niche models would be but only that they will be sold in Europe and North America. Fiat, which has recently acquired a 20% stake in Chrysler, will relaunch the Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands in the US in 2011.
