VW Bluesport Concept

The Bluesport Roadster caused speculations of a revival of the roadster segment, when it initially showed in the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year. The rumor was laid to rest the previous week and this week VW annnounced that it might not build the car. The current state of affairs at Volkswagen with regards to the Bluesport concept is that are circumspectly calculating how to profit with a niche car. The Bluesport is a niche product that will be a challenge to produce in volumes that the company consider profitable. There will be disappointments from all quarters of fans of the concept. VW acknowledges the difficulties the industry is in currently and hopes that the economy will make a turn for the better so that the roadster may see the light of production. The small two-seater has been in waiting for a long times and Bluesport might get a chance to go through to production. The concept is not just an athletic two-seater but it also had genuine eco-friendly credentials. Power under the hood comes from a 2.0-liter turbodiesel that generates 180 hp (134kW) and top torque of 260lb-ft (352Nm), with an acceleration rate of 0-62 mph in just 6.2 seconds. With these figures the fuel consumption of the car in the combined cycle is 35 mpg.
