Indian engineering conglomerate Mahindra & Mahindra has acquired 70% of Korean company SsangYong, while its return to the UK is made possible with the new investment in the importing company, now known as SsangYong Motor UK (SYMUK). Last Wednesday, a cargo of SsangYong Korando cars arrived at Royal Portbury Docks, Avonmouth, on the m/v Faust, one of the world’s biggest car carriers.
Paul Williams, CEO of SsangYong Motor UK, said that the first car to be driven off the ship is considered “one giant leap for the brand.“ SsangYong comes back to the UK with the new Korando, a significant addition to its range, propelling the brand into the all-important crossover segment, one of the quickest to expand in the UK car market.
Within the next few weeks, more shipments of Korando and the 2012 specification Rexton off roader and Rodius MPV models will arrive. SYMUK’s logistics partner, Quantum Automotive, is handling the importation, processing and onward delivery to the SsangYong dealer network.
