In efforts to consolidate its research and design operations, Fisker Automotive Inc. is transferring about 30 people from the U.S. state of Michigan to its California facility. The electric vehicle startup, which is producing its first car in Finland, said that the consolidation is aimed to "accelerate development of its next-generation plug-in hybrids," known as Project Nina. Starting March 1, Fisker's global headquarters in Irvine, California will house all design, engineering, sales, marketing, and administrative operations. The Pontiac, Michigan facility will be closed and all positions would be transferred to California. However, the consolidation is not expected to have an effect on Fisker's partnerships with Michigan-based engineering firms and parts suppliers. Last January, Fisker said that it raised $115 million in equity. This clears one financing hurdle that will allow it to draw on U.S. government loans required to sell the two plug-in hybrid vehicles.
