Fisker picks a large distributor to sell its vehicles in Europe

Fisker LogoAfter securing the site where the future Karma plug-in hybrid vehicles will be built, American carmaker Fisker is working on setting up its dealership network on a global scale. It makes its first step in Europe where it has already selected its retailer on the Old Continent. Founder and namesake Henrik Fisker announced that it will have one of the largest European retailers with over 100 dealerships. Fisker had given this information at the Reuters Autos Summit in Detroit to Autonews. Fisker‚ next country to put up dealerships in is China where the company expects will give its PHEV a warm welcome. Recently, Fisker revealed that it has an agreement with GM for the purchase of a former GM facility in Wilmington , Delaware. In the next several years, the plant will be retooled. Production is scheduled to begin in the US by 2012. Fisker called this a ‚Äúmajor step toward establishing America as a leader of advanced vehicle technology.‚Äù Wilmington will soon boast high quality, low volume production and be the proud builder of world-class, fuel-efficient Fisker plug-in hybrids. In the meantime, Fisker will built the Karma in Finland , together with Valmet Automotive. The first batch is expected to arrive by June 2010. [via autonews]
