Fisker planning to launch the Surf shooting break in 2013

Fisker Surf Concept

Fisker is unveiling its five-door Surf at the Frankfurt Motor Show this week. The wagon combines the capability of an electric vehicle with form and function, wrapped in an elegant design based on the company's Karma sedan. Station wagons, from the Chevrolet Nomad to the Dodge Magnum, have attracted the attention of the industry with their elegance and style. And now, Henrik Fisker is trying to develop his own interpretation of the modern family hauler.

The Surf will be available in the market by 2013 and it is expected to be sold worldwide, according to AutoWeek. The wagon utilizes a turbocharged 260-hp, four-cylinder engine and a battery pack that works with a generator. Its range is 50 miles when on electric power, capable of 300 total miles. Two driving modes are available -- stealth and sport. The default setting is stealth, which provides sufficient power to reach 60 mph within 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 95 mph.

On the other hand, the company claims that the sport mode gives 981 lb-ft of torque, acceleration to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds, and a top speed of 125 mph. Fisker disclosed that the Surf can be recharged in 14 hours on a 110-volt outlet. When using a 220-volt outlet, it takes six hours to recharge the vehicle. Fisker, who is a former designer at Aston Martin and BMW, envisioned the Surf with pronounced haunches, a new three-dimensional grille and flowing lines.
