Fisker revises starting price of 2011 Karma to $95,900

Fisker has raised the starting price for the Karma. Without any options, its final price will be $95,900. To get the Sport model, $8,000 is added to the price and for the Chic trim, the buyer has to pay $5,000 more. The first factory-built Fisker Karma was displayed at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.
What this car offers is an exciting driving experience while being “green.” In fact, the Karma can achieve an average of 100 miles per gallon (2.3 l/100km) while at the same time, it can boast to reach a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration time of under six seconds. Company spokesman Russell Datz said that its starting price of $95,900 means that the Karma offers the “best value combination of style, performance, efficiency, luxury, sustainability and exclusive powertrain technology.”
At this price, the Karma is actually within 10% of the MSRP last year of $87,900. But it carried a pricetag of $80,000 when the concept was initially presented at the 2008 North American International Auto Show.
It appears that Fisker underestimated the production costs as this price was later raised and the carmaker had explained that the original figure was "an estimated price range." Since the Karma is an all-electric car, it is eligible for a $7,500 Federal tax credit. Fisker also stated that it is offered with additional value in design and equipment improvements such as the now-standard integrated solar roof panel, which would have meant an extra $5,000 as an option.
