Fisker is planning to launch a series of new models in the next few years, according to company boss Henrik Fisker. At the launch of Fisker’s range-extender Karma model, Fisker said that the first model to be presented is the Karma saloon, which will start selling in the UK this September. Fisker will be unveiling a sportier SUV-like version of the Karma at the Frankfurt motor show next month. It’s slated to go on sale next year.
And in 2013, Fisker will launch a folding hard-top convertible version that is named the Karma S (for sunset). Henrik Fisker also mentioned plans to build a four-wheel-drive version of the Karma. A new gearbox is in the works as well. This two-speed transmission provides a better fuel economy and top speed when compared with the Karma’s current one-speed direct-drive system.
The smaller Nina is Fisker’s second model line. Set to go on sale in late 2013, it will be more practical than the Karma but will be less expensive. In response to concerns about battery life, Fisker is considering a battery buy-back scheme. Fisker has yet to finalize the details but with this scheme, buyers would get a guaranteed price for the batteries when they have to be replaced.
