Fisker Surf Concept

Fisker will produce a crossover SUV to join its Karma sports saloon, a source told AutoExpress. At the Frankfurt Motor Show last September, Fisker had launched the Surf shooting brake estate. The source said that the crossover would be built on a new platform that will make its debut on the upcoming small saloon that is known as Project Nina. The size of this four-door is similar to a BMW 5 Series but it has nearly the same price as a top-end 3 Series, which is priced at about £40,000. The Project Nina saloon will start to sell in 2013. It has a range-extending hybrid powertrain similar to the Karma’s. However, the engine will be sourced from BMW.

It will be offered in right-hand drive. Starting mid-2012, the Karma will be available in right-hand-drive form. The Surf will have this as well. Set to debut in early 2012 is an updated Karma, which will get a new exhaust system meant to lessen engine noise. Production of the Karma and Surf will still be in Valmet, Finland, but the Project Nina car will be built a newly refurbished plant in Wilmington, Delaware.

This used to be where the Pontiac Solstice was built. To acquire it, Fisker paid £15.6million to General Motors. This saloon is priced at £40,000, while the crossover will be targeting the £50,000-£60,000 price range. It may arrive in 2015.
