Following Toyota, Mazda will install brake override systems in new cars
Mazda announced today that will install brake override systems in its new models. This comes after Toyota recalled more than 8 million vehicles amid complaints of unwanted acceleration.
According to Mazda, the new technology will give the brakes priority if the accelerator and brake pedals are simultaneously depressed. Mazda spokesman Kotaro Minagawa said that all of its future vehicles will be equipped with the technology. “We are not aware of any malfunctions or instances of runaway Mazda vehicles or related accidents that would necessitate a brake override system,” added Minagawa. Due to the recall crisis, Toyota said last month that it will also install a similar override system in its new cars worldwide.
