FoMoCo names Nancy Gioia director of global electrification

Ford Motor Co.'s current hybrid vehicle chief, Nancy Gioia, has been given a new title. She is now known as the director of global electrification. The difference in title signifies the added responsibility of oversight over electric vehicles. Gioia now heads all of Ford's global hybrid and electric vehicle programs. If you ask us, Ford's choice is an ideal one. She has worked as Ford's director of sustainable mobility technologies and hybrid vehicle programs since November 2005. In particular, Gioia will be directing strategy and planning of Ford's global vehicle portfolio, including dealing with suppliers, the energy industry and government, says Autonews. We all know that Ford is investing heavily in electric vehicles and hybrids. Gioia will be supervising plans to launch battery-powered versions of the Ford Transit Connect small van in 2010 and the Ford Focus in 2011. Ford also targets that in 2012, it will produce a plug-in hybrid and roll out the next generation of its hybrid powertrain, which is used in the Ford Escape and Fusion and Mercury Mariner and Milan
