Ford and Toyota pass GM in Canadian new-vehicle sales

GM Renaissance Center

For the month of November in Canada, Ford Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Corp. both beat General Motors Co. in terms of new-vehicle sales. But when you consider the sales since the beginning of the year, GM still holds on to the topselling position. GM isn´t the type to be complacent though as it's to be expected that the carmaker will do what it can to raise sales, which fell 3% in November 2009 compared to the same month last year as it sold 102,188 units. After having had eight straight prior months of double-digit drops, GM is breathing only a little better now that it has had its fifth straight single-digit decline. From January to November of 2009, Canadian sales dropped 13% to 1,349,608 units. This allowed Ford to take first place among automakers in sales in November. Its sales eased 1 percent to 16,379. Ford's car sales increased 4 percent to 3,925, but its truck sales fell 3 percent to 12,454. Toyota took second place as its November sales rose 26 percent to 16,112. Toyota brand sales rose 27 percent while Lexus sales climbed 11 percent. Meanwhile, GM's sales plunged 30 percent to 14,983. Cadillac brand sales actually rose 24 percent to 499, but sales fell at the other GM brands.
