Ford confirms a new police car to replace its aging Crown Victoria
Ford’s police car, the Crown Victoria, will end production in 2011 but Ford has confirmed that it will soon be building its replacement. Ford said that the new police car will be based on the underpinnings of the Taurus.
Ford is set to reveal the new model and its full vehicle specifications in the first quarter of 2010.
Ford supplies 75% of the market segment and sells about 45,000 police vehicles each year.
Ford faces competition in this small but profitable segment from General Motors Co., which announced last month that it will offer the Chevrolet Caprice PPV — Police Pursuit Vehicle — in 2011.
The new police car model will be available when the last Crown Victoria rolls off the production line.
