Because Ford Motor Co. failed to accurately predict which variants of the 2010 Taurus would be highly popular and how many should be produced, its dealers are now having difficulty getting hold of some versions, such as SEL and SHO trims.
Jim Farley, Ford's group vice president of global marketing, said that it‚ a current problem for dealers of the 2010 Taurus that became available only in August. There was a dealer who came with a report saying that he just got his first 2010 Taurus after an 80-day wait for it on a sold order. He asserts that he only keeps a 30-day vehicle supply but when necessary, he can trade with other dealers to keep sales moving. Ford has sold 38,361 Taurus sedans through November, a figure that‚ 22% lower compared to a year ago. Farley claims that Ford's total days' supply of vehicles is in the 60- to 70-day range, which he says is ‚Äúgood.‚Äù He also asserts that Ford is ‚Äúdefinitely catching up on the demand.‚Äù Farley admitted that Ford has underestimated the F-150 double-cab‚ popularity. He said that suppliers get a certain mix of trim levels estimated by Ford. Photo gallery after the jump!
