A new range of Transit commercial vehicles was unveiled by Ford at its “Go Further” event. The Ford Transit and Ford Transit Connect models were developed under the “One Ford” global product strategy in Europe. They will be available in Europe, North America and other global markets. These products were modified to suit what the customers in every region require. By introducing the new generation Transit and Transit Connect models, Ford takes a significant step in its commitment to totally redesign all of its commercial vehicle range for Europe by the end of 2013. The two models utilize the most advanced worldwide platforms, emphasizing Ford’s new approach to producing the next generation of top-of-the-class commercial vehicles to meet the customers’ needs in all global markets.
The new range is built on nearly 50 years of experience in developing market-leading commercial vans and was engineered at Ford’s Centre of Excellence for commercial vehicles in Europe. It also applies global product development resources. The all-new Ford Transit replaces the heavier two-ton Transit derivatives in Europe and other markets throughout the world. Eventually, they will replace the Ford E-Series lineup in North America. The new Transit, which is sturdy, practical, and functional, offers new levels of capability and versatility to the medium commercial van market. The Transit is customized to suit the needs of key worldwide markets.
They offer a wide-ranging lineup of body styles and derivatives, with numerous wheelbases, roof heights and new chassis cowl versions. The latest 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel powers the Transit. In Europe, they will be offered with a full range of Transit bodystyles and derivatives. Buyers can choose from front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The customers in North America will have several engines to choose from, including the 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 or a powerful diesel option. Each comes with rear-wheel drive and is more efficient by at least 25% when put up against a comparable E-Series. Ford will offer multiple roof heights and wheelbases. The Transit vans for North America will be built in Kansas City, together with the Ford F-150.
