The redesigned 2014 Ford Mustang won’t be another retro job, according to Ford design chief J Mays. He explained that the next version of the Mustang will follow a different path but that its design is still in the process of being "locked down." He said that Ford is celebrating the Mustang’s 50 years with its sixth major redesign. In an interview with Automotive News, May said that this car is expected to “win all of the Mustang faithful yet bring the brand forward as well.”

He said that it first has to “look like a Mustang,” which means that it will have five-spoke wheels, pony badges, and American flags, according to AutoWeek. But then, Ford will also give it an independent rear suspension and its weight will be reduced.

It could also have added horsepower with the use of direct injection, some paddle shifters or a twin-clutch setup comparable to Ford’s smaller entries.
