Ford issues Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) for Mustangs produced after 2011

Ford has issued a Technical Service Bulletin for Mustangs produced after 2011, warning owners about unauthorized modifications made to the power train hardware of the 2011 F-150 and 2011-2012 Mustangs equipped with the 5.0L engine that could exceed component limits. Typically, a TSB is issued to fix a current problem or defect. In fact, Ford has had three TSBs for these Mustangs for problems with the clutch, fuel pump and cold shifting.
Ford says that these modifications result to the powertrain getting damaged and/or voiding the factory powertrain warranty. If the PCM is recalibrated to raise the output of the engine, it may result in poor drivability or component failures.
According to a Ford representative, “customization is a big part of the Mustang ownership experience” but there could be some damage and the warranty could be voided if the vehicles are modified beyond factory specifications. To make it clear, Ford can not automatically void the warranty because of aftermarket modifications. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 states that to void a warranty, it should be proven that an aftermarket part directly caused the original equipment part to fail.
