Ford Mustang outperforms Chevrolet Camaro in a face-off between V6 versions

Last week we told you that the Chevrolet Camaro squashed the Ford Mustang in August 2010 sales. Today the Ford Mustang earned a Very Good road test score and outscored the Chevrolet Camaro which earned just a Good score, in Consumer Reports'October issue. And yes, we are talking about a face-off between V6 versions of the two vehicles. For those who don’t know, in the face-off between V8 versions of the same cars, the Ford Mustang outscored the Camaro, despite being an older design. According to Consumer Reports, the V6 engine of the 2011 Mustang proved to be more refined that the Camaro’s but also delivered better acceleration as well as fuel economy. Still, the Camaro delivers a decent acceleration, but not as readily available, says Consumer Reports.
"The Mustang is the more agile and enjoyable car to drive of the two," said David Champion, senior director of Consumer Reports' Auto Test Center. Prices for the vehicles were $28,660 for the Mustang to $28,195 for the Camaro.
The 2011 Ford Mustang is powered by a 3.7-liter V6 engine delivering 305 hp and an impressive 24 mpg overall in CR's own fuel economy tests. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission while braking is very good.
The 2011 Camaro comes with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that delivers 304 hp and gets 21 mpg overall. Engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission, described by Consumer Report as being stiff and imprecise, while braking is very good. Both interiors of the cars are well-finished, but the Camaro has a nicer steering wheel than the Mustang’s.
