Ford planning a low-cost subcompact based on Fiesta

2013 Ford Fiesta

The worldwide markets need a small subcompact and it appears that Ford knows this very well and as a result, the American manufacturer is considering building a new car based on the small Fiesta. According to Ford CEO Alan Mulally, the company is looking around the world at opportunities to offer a car priced below the Fiesta. For those who don’t know, Ford already offers the Ka minicar in Europe, but the car is not quite a success. The new car would share a bigger platform with the Fiesta, which means it will offer more space and will be slightly larger than the well-known hatch. Still, we don’t have more details, but we do know that when it will go on sale, the car will wear the blue oval logo as Ford will not adopt a strategy seen at Renault. The French manufacturer created a new low-cost brand in order to sell this kind of cars in worldwide markets. “We do not have a firm plan at the moment [for a global sub-B model], but clearly being competitive in every market segment is important,” Mulally said to Autonews.
