Ford planning a scrappage scheme for this year

Budget forecasts by Ford has included bumped sales from a scrappage scheme for the year, thus they expect the government to bring about a scrappage subsidy to aid new car buyers any time this year.

Now, other industry figures are making a similar assumption but nothing is definite yet. An outline of how the scrappage scheme would work was submitted by SMMT to the government, with the original goal of increasing new car sales this month.

It was initially forecasted by SMMT that a pay-to-scrap scheme would raise sales of new cars by 250,000 units throughout the 2009. The delay of the implementation of the scheme is becoming costly as customers wait for the final announcement. Ford estimates that around 200,000 registrations could be lost in just one month as it tracks between 30 to 40 percent down.
