Ford Racing introducing new “FR9″ engine during 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season
The latest NASCAR-certified powerplant produced by Ford and Roush Yates Engines have raised the bar for expectations in 2009. The powerplant, code named the ‘FR9′ is the first purpose-built NASCAR racing engine that Ford Motor Company has ever produced.
The design and development of the racing engine was spearheaded by David Simon, a Ford Racing engineer, and the famous engine builder Doug Yates, together with input form the iconic Ford Racing engine engineer Mose Nowland. The ‘FR9′ is different from the current engine in three important areas. For one, the cooling system has been modified and will allow teams to optimize the amount of tape they can put on the front grill to enhance downforce. Secondly, the valve train has been enhanced and thirdly, the manufacture and assembly will be more straightforward compare to the current model.
