Ford resolves its workload dispute with workers at its assembly plant
The workload dispute that had plagued Ford Motor Co.’s workers at its assembly plant in suburban Kansas City, Mo., has now been resolved, according to Ford spokeswoman Marcey Evans. This news erupted just as voting was being conducted to authorize a strike. Local UAW members began handing in their votes on Thursday and had planned to finish Saturday.
But on Friday, a team of senior Ford management and national Ford union representatives met with the Kansas City union leaders and reached resolution. Jeff Wright, president of UAW Local 249, said the union chose to continue the planned strike vote Saturday. Initial results showed the approval rate was well above 90 percent. Wright says however, that this was merely a formality and it would have meant more work if they had canceled it. No specifics on the resolution have been announced to date.
