After yesterday it revealed the new Fiesta, Ford unveiled today the next generation Mondeo for Europe. The design is not new for us as the vehicle is in fact the Ford Fusion with a new name, but the changes will be see under the hood, where the Mondeo will be equipped with the award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine. This will make the 2013 Mondeo the largest vehicle from Ford to carry that small displacement engine. Ford expects the new Mondeo to deliver best-in-class fuel economy and CO2 emissions of less than 130g/km. For those who don’t know, Ford’s 1.0-litre EcoBoost, received the 2012 “International Engine of the Year” award and delivers 125 PS and 170Nm of torque (and up to 200Nm in “overboost” mode). The engine features advanced technologies including twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT), a compact, low-inertia turbo that spins at 248,000rpm, direct fuel injection, an aluminium cylinder head with integrated exhaust manifold, low friction piston coatings, low tension piston rings, low friction crank seals and a cambelt-in-oil design. More details to be revealed when Ford will release them!
