Ford seeks to match fuel efficiency levels of Volkswagen’s BlueMotion

Ford is seeking to match the fuel efficiency levels attained by Volkswagen's BlueMotion by setting up a new plan that would extend the mileage offered by its range. Global Product chief Derek Kuzak told Autocar that Ford will be working on making its upcoming vehicles as fuel efficient as possible. In fact, all of the models in Ford’s future product plans will enter a weight reduction program and get special aerodynamic testings. Both are expected to considerably boost the vehicles’ overall fuel efficiency figures.
Since the Polo and Golf BlueMotion emit less than 100 grams of CO2 per kilometer, both are exempted from the British road tax and from the London Congestion Charge, says Autocar. The Golf BlueMotion emits 99 grams of CO2 per kilometer, while the Polo BlueMotion emits only 91 g/km.
All BlueMotion variants have a series of subtle but effective modifications targeted at optimizing efficiency, including optimized aerodynamics, low rolling resistance tires, Start/Stop, battery regeneration and longer gearing. In early January, Volkswagen said that as a result, there’s less strain on the common rail diesel engine, which leads to even lower emissions and better economy.
