Ford shows poor sales for the month of May

Even with the positive effects of scrappage schemes in both the UK and Spain, European sales of Ford for the month of May fell 16.3 percent in a year-on-year comparison, representing a fall of 27,000 units this year against total sales of 138,500 units in the same period last year.

Ford, which is selling cars in 51 markets across Europe, is seeing positive signs that the scrappage scheme is beginning to take effect, particularly in two areas: a continued support for market demand and decrease of total fleet carbon dioxide emissions. Although year-on-year sales have fallen by 8,200 units to 25,200 units in May this year, the UK remains the carmaker's second largest global market. An extra registration of 3,800 vehicles for Ford is the result of scrappage.

In Germany, Ford has experienced a rise on its year-on-year sales by 26.9 percent last month to 29,100 vehicles. However, in France and Spain sales were down despite the scrappage scheme adapted in Spain. Scrappage schemes, however, raised sales of the Ford Fiesta and Ka to 39,200 and 9,400 units correspondingly in the same year-on-year period. [via autocar]
