Ford’s innovative SmartGauge put on hold

Ford revealed its latest eco-friendly instrument cluster a few months ago dubbed the SmartGauge in the Ford Fusion and Mercury Mila hybrids.

Because there is no new car to feature at this time, Ford thought it would be a nice moment to provide a bit of history on how the SmartGauge was created. Ford partnered with Johnson Controls as well as IDEO and Smart Design to make those popular leaves appear when the car is efficiently driven. The study on how people measure efficiency was provided by IDEO. The leaves concept came from Ford graphic designer George Macon.

The most important discovery of Ford is that people tend to drive more efficiently when information on fuel economy is just right at their fingertips.
