Former Fiat marketing executive plans to revive the De Tomaso brand
If you ask us, Italian industrialist Gian Mario Rossignolo’s plan to resurrect the famous De Tomaso brand is a brilliant one. Enthusiasts could expect the newest models to be shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011. Already, fans have been talking about seeing the Pantera once more, arguably the most famous De Tomaso vehicle of all time. Continued after the jump!
Rossignolo, a former CEO of Lancia, Telecom Italia and Zanussi, has made no secret of his dream to start making his own motorcars for some time. In 2007, he supported a plan to purchase Bertone that eventually fell through.
Bertone has since been taken in by Fiat. In the 1990s, he relaunched the Isotta Fraschini brand with an Audi-based concept that never actually reached production. Rossignolo is intent on making the De Tomaso relaunch a success and to do so, it bought a Pininfarina plant. Having a plant will allow Rossignolo to implement his Innovation in Auto Industry S.p.A project (IAI), which is a business plan that allows for the building of a three model range of aluminum vehicles.
IAI utilizes new low-cost spaceframe technology called Univis that minimizes tooling requirements while allowing for numerous model derivatives. If everything goes as planned, we could be seeing a new luxury saloon, sportscar and SUV.
