GM Renaissance Center

Michael D. Richards has been appointed to head General Motors Co.'s Buick and GMC brands. Richards replaces Susan Docherty, who had been promoted to vice president of U.S. sales last October. Richards, aged 52, was a Ford Motors. Co. executive for 27 years and was general marketing manager for Lincoln Mercury from 2006 to 2008. After he left Ford in 2008, he had worked as a consultant at J.D. Power and Associates and sometime after, joined Trilogy Enterprises Inc. At Trilogy, Richards was vice president of marketing and sales for global automotive business. In a statement, GM Vice-Chairman Bob Lutz said that he was pleased to have Richards as a part of the GM family. Lutz cited Richards' "vast sales and marketing experience," which he considers invaluable in taking on the new responsibility to build on the Buick and GMC brands.
