Starting September 1, Frank Tuch will serve as Volkswagen AG's chief quality officer. VW recently appointed 43-year-old Tuch, who had been Porsche's former top quality executive and was most recently the chief operating officer at Lotus Cars -- a position he took last May after working at Porsche for eight years. VW CEO Martin Winterkorn admires Tuch for helping Porsche rise to the No. 1 spot in the 2010 J.D. Power and Associates US Initial Quality Study. Tuch is expected to improve the rankings of Volkswagen and sister brand Audi in this survey. These two brands consistently get results that are below the industry average in the study. In fact, VW ranked third from last in 2010. This poor performance impedes VW group's efforts to boost sales in the key US market. At a press event near Munich last month, Winterkorn told reporters that Tuch "will bring [the company] forward in the USA. Tuch succeeds Hans-Joachim Rothenpieler who has been appointed managing director for engineering at Volkswagen Sachsen GmbH. Rothenpieler is the replacement for Frank Loeschmann who will be VW's new group representative for India beginning October 1.
