BMW brought the Concept Active Tourer Outdoor to the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) to showcase how to utilize interior space, whether it’s for sport or leisure. BMW hopes that with this concept car, which belongs to the premium compact segment, the brand will be able to promote its manner of merging sporting aesthetics and style with sustainable drive technology, compact dimensions and functionality.
Utmost efficiency is ensured with this environmentally friendly plug-in hybrid drive system, with its combination of a combustion engine and an electric motor. BMW talks about its compact dimensions and sporty design while offering plenty of interior space. It has a variable rear compartment meant to fit in sports and leisure equipment.
It is powered by a transversely mounted 1.5-litre petrol engine with front-wheel drive. It features a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) drive concept that provides the features of both an electric motor and a traditional combustion engine. The sportiness of the BMW Concept Active Tourer Outdoor is emphasized further with its use of Exclusive Gold Race Orange exterior paintwork. B
MW used easy-care, durable interior materials for this concept. These include MoonWhite and MoonRock Grey leather that is resilient to contact with outdoor equipment. Another highlight is a carrier system for two bicycles (built into the interior).
