The Chevrolet Colorado Rally Concept will be displayed at the upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show, permitting European fans to get a glimpse of this impressive rally-bread concept with a double cab. The official unveiling of this pickup was actually at the Buenos Aires International Motor Show two months ago. Wayne Brannon, President and Managing Director of Chevrolet Europe, said that trucks are “an essential part” of the brand.
He also said that the Colorado Rally Concept “creatively reinterprets” the brand’s heritage through its “purposeful design, refinement and uncompromising capability.” The double-cab pickup has permanent four-wheel drive and a set of aluminum rims 18-inch double-ended (machining and polishing) that are covered in 305/60 R18 tires.
We know that it is powered by a 2.8-liter turbodiesel but its output levels have yet to be announced. In terms of design, the concept features LED lighting elements, Chevrolet's signature dual-port grille, muscular fiberglass fenders, and a sculpted hood.
Its body has a triple coat of pearl white and a dash of 'golden' particles. Charcoal-colored plastic is what was used to create its roof and bumpers, the stylized roll-bar, and the inside of its load bay, which accommodates the tool boxes and a spare tire.
With its four-wheel drive, the new Chevrolet Colorado Rally Concept is powered by the turbo-diesel 2.8-liter engine. With this engine also able to deliver high torque, it makes it the best choice when it comes to racing or off-road driving. This is, of course, in addition to its already excellent technical features. This new offering from Chevrolet has the fox racing high-performance shox shock system that has 140 mm travel distance and combined with the suspension system with a height that can be adjusted for a maximum of 50 mm.
It even has the Smittybilt winch systems, both of which have been integrated to the bumper, and has 5.5 Hp with pulling capacity at 4 metric tons and aeronautic cable at 23,000 mm. Speaking of bumpers, it has been designed to have a high attack angle with stylized moldings and side steps to optimize off-road capabilities. Since the objective has always been to make a real rally vehicle, GM South America Design Studio ensured that the Colorado Rally Concept would have a number of features aimed at off-road driving.
Each bumper for instance has two milled tow hooks composed of aluminum with the wide fenders in fiberglass. Inside the bed is the spare tire support and integrated to which are the tool boxes. Air inlets are included to ensure improved air circulation. Then there is the open tailgate that enhances the air flux and lowers the weight in addition to optimizing the rear view. Acrylic rally windows are installed to provide better safety versus side impacts.
Other features included by the design team are the integrated bed roll bar and the exposed, quick operation fuel cap made of aluminum. There is a full roof rack and the rear bumper integrated to the body. Another feature is the hood that has differentiated detail and made of fiberglass. To make sure that the Colorado Rally Concept is just as amazing to drive at night, it comes with high performance lights on the front while the side mirrors have been integrated with the searchlight.
The shell of the side mirror is also where the side blinkers are integrated. It also has headlamps, tail lamps, search lights, fog lamps, and LED. There is also the high reach lights mounted on the roof. While this model is a crew cab version, it comes with the tridimensional chromed front grille.
The body has a color called Pearl White, with a triple coat, and golden particles. Some of the components in the exterior have a charcoal texture. The side moldings and the skid plate are in liquid metal with the off-road bead lock wheels obtained from one aluminum piece. Even the 18-inch wheels were taken from one aluminum piece. There are two unique finishing types for the surface -- polished and machined. To meet the needs of off-road driving, it is fitted with the T/A 305/60R18 Mud-Terrain tires.
