BMW announced today that it is expanding it 3-Series range with a new vehicle: the new BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition, which will be officially unveiled in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show!
According to the manufacturer, the new vehicle will carry a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with variable intake geometry and common-rail direct fuel injection complete with piezo-injectors capable to deliver 120 kW/163 hp (peak torque of 360 Newton-metres/265 lb-ft all the way from 1,750 to 3,000 rpm) and an impressive fuel consumption of just 4.1 litres diesel/100 kilometres (equal to 68.9 mpg imp and a CO2 rating of 109 grams per kilometre in the EU test cycle).
These numbers make the new 320d EfficientDynamics Edition the most fuel-efficient and lowest-emission car in BMW's current model range. Now don't think the car has poor performances because you're not right: the car can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 8.2 seconds while the top speed is limited at 225 km/h or 140 mph.
Due to the fact that the car is dubbed EfficientDynamics Edition, the vehicle comes with a complete range of technologies serving to reduce both fuel consumption and emissions and already featured as standard on the other models in the BMW 3-Series such as: brake energy regeneration, auto start stop function, the gearshift point indicator which tells the driver in good time when to shift gears in the interest of optimum efficiency and the EPS Electronic Power Steering to obtain the maximum efficiency.
The car also comes with the new Aero wheel rims in turbine wheel design , shown also on the brand new 2010 Bmw X6 Hybrid, which improve the level of aerodynamics to an even higher standard giving the BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition a drag coefficient of just 0.26.
The BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition is considered, so far, as the most consistent implementation of the BMW EfficientDynamics development strategy among BMW 3 Series vehicles. While the BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition offers the typical attributes of a BMW 3 Series – premium yet sporty – it also returns superb fuel economy.
In fact, when the fuel efficiency of the BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition is compared to that all other premium vehicles in the segment, this 3 Series definitely sits on top.
Making the BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition more appealing is the fact that, following BMW's general policy, customers do not have to pay more for the benefits brought by this innovative technology from the German premium carmaker. This means that potential customer could avail of the BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition at the same price as the "regular" BMW 320d.
