Peugeot has unveiled a super-performance version of its popular Sports Coupé -- the RCZ R - at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The RCZ R is a merger of performance and efficiency thanks to its new 1.6-liter THP engine that provides 270bhp while emitting just 145 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer.
To further bring out the power of the RCZ R, it is fitted with a Torsen differential that allows high level grip efficiency and dynamic sensations. Bruno Famin, Peugeot Sport Director, remarked that the “strength of style” of the RCZ is further enhanced by its dynamic performance and the 270bhp of the R version.
He said that the RCZ R is the carmaker’s answer to the passion aroused by the sporting success of the RCZ Peugeot Sport.
Xavier Nicolas, Product Manager of RCZ, quipped that they had an ambitious brief, which is to develop a top-specification, high-performance version of the RCZ that does not only retains the qualities of comfort and convenience for everyday use but also consumes lesser fuel emits lesser carbon dioxide at just 145kg/km.
The 270bhp (199kW) coming from the RCZ R’s engine propels the car from zero to 62mph in less than six seconds. Higher power and lower emissions were achieved by utilizing the downsizing capacity of the THP engine, thereby saving weight and ensuring aerodynamic optimization. Peugeot will start selling the RCZ R in early 2014.
