Porsche will unveil its 918 Spyder plug-in hybrid at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA), which is scheduled to be from September 10 to 22. Being a plug-in hybrid sports car, the Porsche 918 Spyder marks a new age for sports car making. The Porsche 918 Spyder will be the first super sports car that provides a very dynamic performance on the road while consuming fuel at an amount similar to a compact car’s.
Thanks to this innovation, the Porsche 918 Spyder is taking on a pioneering role similar to that of the Porsche 911 when it was launched at IAA 50 years ago. In tribute to the five decades of the 911, Porsche is introducing the limited edition "50 years 911" model.
Derived from the 911 Carrera S, the limited edition "50 years 911" merges traditional 911 features with state-of-the-art technology. Porsche will also unveil at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show its new 911 Turbo, around 40 years from when the carmaker first introduced the turbocharged 911.
The German sports car maker will also showcase a new generation of the Panamera Gran Turismo. The Panamera S E-Hybrid is considered as a first plug-in hybrid in the luxury car market segment and offers strong evidence that the sports car maker is a leader in developing fuel-efficient powertrain concepts for sports cars.
The 918 Spyder, on the other hand, is the latest personification of traditional Porsche DNA in an innovative sports car concept. The 918 Spyder is an ideal combination of dynamic performance and the silent motion of an electric vehicle. Its hybrid powertrain offers up to 887 hp of output – similar to that of a conventional super sports car – allowing the 918 Spyder to accelerate in just 2.8 seconds while boasting of an average fuel consumption of between 94 mpg and 85 mpg.
