Jaguar may launch a new concept sports vehicle at next month’s Frankfurt auto show, the company told Automotive News Europe. However, the company also said that it could “neither confirm nor deny" the latest speculation that the vehicle would be a smaller variant to the XK.
A spokesperson for the company stated that Jaguar has “bold plans” for the future, and a concept vehicle would “likely” be announced at the Frankfurt show. The company has not hidden its desire to develop a model to rival the Porsche Boxster.
On August 1, British magazine Autocar quoted a source who said that the planned vehicle "will blow the rest of the industry away." Rumors regarding the vehicle cropped up last month when spy shots of a convertible mule cloaked in the shortened body of the XK sports car were taken near the company’s Coventry base in England.
The latest shots of a similar mule were recently snapped in the United States. According to the magazine, V6 petrol engines, boosted by turbochargers, will likely power the potential new Jaguar, which has been dubbed as the XE.
If the concept vehicle is revealed at the auto show, it would expectedly be compared with the Jaguar E-type, which had its 50th anniversary this year.
Moreover, the company spokesperson said that other areas of the market are being investigated past the current XK, XF and XJ ranges, adding that if the business is to grow, they need to look “beyond those markets."
